Dylan receives Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award from Jack Nicholson in 1991 & Performs "Masters of War"

Dylan’s Going Going Gong!

Well my daddy, he didn’t leave me too much you know.

He was a very simple man and he didn’t leave me a lot.

But what he told me was this.

He did say “son”, he said ……… …………………. ………………….
…………………. …..
…………………. ………………….. …………………. …………………. …………………. ….. …………………. ………………….

He said so many things, you know.

Dylan finally receives his Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award from longtime fan Jack Nicholson in 1991, in a piece kindly uploaded by Rutwinks.

http://www.new-pony.com/time/leathertassels.jpgI love the the design feature on this clip whereby the piece was video-cammed from the TV by Rutwinks. The effect is that it looks like it was filmed in 1953, like it was something dug up in a time capsule! It’s a strange wonderful effect!

Bob is typically hilarious and unpredictable in his unique post-modern speech! He is equal part philosopher and surreal comedian here!

He seems a little tanked up and angry at a few people. Apparently, at this point in Dylan’s life, he wasn’t a happy camper, having just been through the turmoil of a second divorce. Apparently too, he was upset that certain people who had said they’d come along and lend their support at the Awards pulled out! Hence the anger in his ‘Masters of War’ performance at the Awards show – see the clip posted by fuzzoravas below!

But being Bob, he spoke, in a typically idiosyncratic manner, of how he was feeling at the time, illustrating a bravery that not many artists would show when accepting such a significant Award.

As an aside, there’s one question I always have (well, two questions, if you include ” Where’s the bar? “!) and it’s this …. When are we going to see Bob winning the fucking Nobel Prize for Literature? It’s long long overdue. I detest the cultural snobbery inherent in the choice of winners and, by extension, in those excluded.

Dylan has now been nominated several times. So many lesser writers have won it. Does Bob have to be dead first?
