A wonderful performance by Robert in NYC, last Friday night, perfectly captured by nyctaper in real high quality – professional quality no less! Lots of great Go-Betweens songs and Forster solo songs as well as a cover or two! Former Go-Between Adele Pickvance is also here and provides great accomapniment.
We do love the Go-Betweens and, although not in the same league, Grant and Robert’s solo stuff.
Robert’s mighty EVANGELIST LP this year, is still ahead of the pack as album of the year!
The fine LP was described by Robert as “It’s not Oceans Apart 2 … it’s something else, but with trails going into the past and I’m proud of it.”
We’ve posted loads more Robert and Go-Betweens and Grant Mc Lennan stuff HERE!
Lots more great GB’s stuff can be had at misha4music and That Striped Sunlight Sound

At The JFK airport. 2 hours to go before we head off to London. We played 2 shows last night at Joes Pub. The second set Robert described as 70 minutes of the best music he had ever been involved in. We winged it with no set list.
The hair spray is out and the band is starting to take on a ‘look’ – this can happen on tour. Robert is going for early seventies Waylon Jennings.
We are looking forward to Europe. There shall be surprises. Wardrobe is being re-assessed and attitude is being finetuned. I can reveal Robert is lost in the Mama Cass biography and its loving depiction of the early to mid Sixties folk rock scene. He tells us he is ‘digging’ it – this is some of the ancient hipster speak he favours and which we at time struggle to decode. We think it means he is enjoying the book. Read on, Robert.
nyctaper describes this gig thusly;
By his own words, Robert Forster performed one of the best sets of music he has ever played last night at Joe’s Pub. The seventy-minute set was tight, well-paced and executed to perfection.
The setlist drew from classic Go-Betweens numbers, Robert’s solo career, one Velvets cover, and a couple of numbers from his excellent new release The Evangelist.
Of particular poignancy was Robert’s heartfelt rendition of “Demon Days”, one of final collaborations between Forster and his longtime Go-Betweens writing partner the late Grant McLennan.
Robert’s musical accompaniment was also outstanding — including the tremendous bass guitar work from former Go-Betweens Adele Pickvance. Adele’s solo on “I Can Do” was one of the highlights of the evening.
We recorded this show directly from the soundboard under the best possible circumstances and the result is a professional quality recording. We used XLR cables from the board directly into the Apogee pre-amp and digitally captured in 24-bit with the Microtrack. This is a true digital soundboard recording. The soundboard tech at Joe’s Pub mixed the show to perfection, and the capture mix, the levels, and the soundstage are all outstanding. Enjoy!
We posted the wonderful LP – the best of the year! – at “THE EVANGELIST“
We recently posted an amazing show (in terms of performance and recording quality) from Robert’s current world tour recorded 15 September 08 in NYC! Check it HERE! It’s truly amazing!
