Top 10 Poodle Rock Metal bands

A scholarly analysis of the hall of shame that was eighties Poodle Rock!

The only thing worse than the hair and outfits was the muzak!

Oh, the horrors!

From backtotheeighties.

Nothin’ but a good time

One of the more distinctive music genres from the 80s was hair metal. Musicians had long hair since the 60s, but those hard rockers in the 80s just took it that little bit too far…

There is some argument about who fits in this genre, and while KISS, Van Halen and Areosmith were the model that half these bands were based, they were certainly around long before this particular scene.

Also, there is no metal in Bon Jovi and while Guns N Roses are another band that are roped in to the lot, I believe their music shows little resemblance to the following bands…

HAIR METAL BANDS

Mötley Crüe
Probably the first true hair band and the model that countless bands looked to in the years to come. They’ve showed amazing endurance and still manage to top the charts in this day and age.

Check out: Shout at the Devil is one of the best rock records ever made.

Ratt
They followed shortly behind the success of The Crue and wore their Van Halen and Judas Priest musical influences on their sleeves.

Check out: Their only big single Round and Round and the underrated Nobody Rides for Free.

Poison
Open Up and Say…Ahh! was the first album I ever bought and I broke my collar bone two days before I was supposed to go to their concert….however, I did meet guitarist C.C. DeVille in a memorable interview once and many regard them as the seminal hair metal outfit and Every Rose has its Thorn as the proto-power ballad.

Check out: Every Rose and their 3rd and darker album Flesh & Blood.

Whitesnake
English hair metal at its best. Dave Coverdale always liked to get more romantic than his American counterparts and he’s still going strong today.

Check out: Still of the Night live DVD

Def Leppard
Their Hysteria album sold more than any other band on this list and they made themselves a household name for at least a while – their drummer lost an arm and their guitarist died and they slowly went downhill.

Check out: Their hard-rocking peak Pyromania.

Skid Row
They just scraped in with a couple of albums before grunge crushed the whole scene. I have a cool photo of me and Sebastian Bach on stage together and we’re also using one of his songs at our wedding…

Check out: Self-titled debut.

L.A. Guns
The off-shoot that started Guns N Roses, this band lays somewhere in between. Underrated and underplayed.

Check out: Over the Edge single and their latest album Tales from the Strip.

Warrant
Another band that scraped in at the tail end, they will always be remembered for their cheesy anthem Cherry Pie, but are well known in the industry as brilliant song smiths.

Check out: Inspired singles Uncle Tom’s Cabin and I Saw Red.

Vixen
Hard-rocking hair metal girls at their best. I interviewed band founder Jan Kuehnemund of the all-girl band a year or two ago and she was all class.

Check out: Their self-titled debut

Scorpions
Germany’s hair metal heroes. These guys have been around forever, and they just keep on going.

Check out: Singles Rock You Like a Hurricane and Wind of Change.

Other notable mentions:

Quiet Riot, Stryper, WASP, White Lion, Winger, Dokken, Tesla, Cinderella, Lita Ford, Twisted Sister, Hanoi Rocks, Extreme, Great White, White Cross, Y&T, Firehouse, Faster Pussycat, Europe, Steelheart, Vain, Danger Danger, Nelson

AC/DC – Rock ‘N Roll Train (2008)
Single from Black Ice album
Bit rate: 320
File size: 10 mb

We’re not great fans but their music goes down well at the gogo bar! So it can’t be that bad!

Here are two recent singles for their impending album!

A reliable in-house BW&BK source has confirmed that AC/DC’s forthcoming album will in fact be called BLACK ICE. It will be released on October 27th. The new single, ‘Runaway Train’, will be released in late August. A mammoth world tour will start in America in November.

BLACK ICE is AC/DC’s first studio album in eight years. It was recorded in Canada at Bryan Adams’ studio under the production guidance of Brendan O’Brien. It will be the band’s 15th studio album. Their last album was STIFF UPPER LIP in 2000 but the band maintained a profile with DVD.

Metallica – Death Magnetic (2008)

Metallica – Death Magnetic (2008)

Исполнитель: Metallica
Альбом: Death Magnetic
Год выпуска: 2008
Жанр: Rock/Hard Rock, Alternative Metal
Формат: MP3
Качество: 320 kbps
Размер архива / Size: 171 mb

I came across this on some Russian forum!

Not my cup of Jack Daniels really … although the Black Album was OK.

Not my links …. grab em fast!!

Death Magnetic is the upcoming ninth studio album by American heavy metal band Metallica. It is scheduled for release on September 12, 2008 by Warner Bros. Records.

The album will be the band’s first to feature current bassist Robert Trujillo, and the first to be produced by Rick Rubin.

Death Magnetic also marks the first time in the band’s history in which all band members contributed to each song on an album, and is the first album in twenty years to feature an instrumental track, since …And Justice for All. It will be their first studio album released through Warner Bros., although they still remain with Warner Music Group, which also owns Elektra Records, the band’s previous label.

Since May 12, 2008, the album has been heavily promoted on its specially dedicated website, entitled Mission: Metallica, which features daily updates of exclusive, behind-the-scenes sneak previews with photos and video clips from the studio.

On June 14, 2008, the album’s official title was announced, followed by the revealing of its cover art on July 17, 2008 (2008-07-17), which depicts a metallic coffin with a black and white design around it (representing iron filings in a magnetic field). The cover also features a slightly altered version of the original Metallica logo, used on the band’s first five albums.

Although the album doesn’t have a title track, the words “death magnetic” are mentioned in the song “My Apocalypse”.

On July 16, 2008 (2008-07-16), James Hetfield commented on the album’s title:

“ Death Magnetic, at least the title, to me […] started out as kind of a tribute to people that have fallen in our business, like Layne Staley and a lot of the people that have died, basically — rock and roll martyrs of sorts. And then it kind of grew from there, thinking about death… some people are drawn towards it, and just like a magnet, [and] other people are afraid of it and push away. And the concept that we’re all gonna die sometimes is over-talked about and then a lot of times never talked about — no one wants to bring it up; it’s the big white elephant in the living room. But we all have to deal with it at some point.”

Metallica – The Day That Never Comes [CDS] (2008)
MP3@256
“The Day That Never Comes” is the fortieth single by Metallica, and the first from the band’s upcoming studio album, Death Magnetic.

“The Day That Never Comes” was released to the radio and for digital download on Thursday August 21st, 2008 at 11 am PDT. The song quickly climbed the iTunes chart, reaching #4 on their top selling songs after less than three days of availability. The song was played live for the first time on August 22nd, at the 2008 Leeds Festival in England.

In an interview with the creators of the music video game Rock Band in October 2007, it was stated that Metallica had given the rights to MTV Games, the game’s publisher, to have the first single off Death Magnetic available for playability on the game before the album’s release. On August 1, 2008, that first single was ultimately revealed to be “The Day That Never Comes.”

“The Day That Never Comes” is described as the most downbeat track on Death Magnetic, and is said to be reminiscent of Metallica’s epic breakthrough single “One,” which won a Grammy Award in 1990. Like previous ballads and downbeat songs by Metallica, it is the fourth track of the album. Rock Sound has also compared the song to the likes of Thin Lizzy.

The intro starts out with clean guitars that carry into the verses, while the choruses are backed with heavily distorted guitars. The bridge speeds up gradually and eventually leads into fast paced harmony between the guitars and a long guitar solo by Hammett, a build-up comparable to that of “One” and “Fade to Black”.

AC/DC – Back In Black (1980) – Digitally Remastered

AC/DC – Back In Black (1980)

Back in High School, AC/DC were quite popular. Well, I mean popular amongst the dumbest, simian blokes. The kind of blokes who wore t-shirts with the sleeves shorn off, and denim jackets with the sleeves shorn off and who spent most of their time polishing their Doc Martens boots.

AC/DC never made any sense whatsoever to me.

But that was until I visited a nasty go-go bar!

Strangely, in that one specific context, they did make a little sense! Well, the same amount of sense as go-go bars make sense!

The nasty go-go gals seem to love em – or at least, it gets their nasty asses to gyrate pretty fucking good! That’s enough for me!

Back in Black is the 7th studio album by Australian hard rock band AC/DC, released on 25 July 1980. Back in Black was the first AC/DC album recorded without former lead singer Bon Scott, who had died at the age of 33 on February 19, 1980.

The band considered disbanding following Scott’s death, but ultimately decided to continue and shortly thereafter hired Brian Johnson as their new lead singer and lyricist. Robert John “Mutt” Lange, who had previously worked with AC/DC on Highway to Hell, was again brought in to produce.

The album is estimated to have sold 42 million copies internationally, making it the second best selling album of all time behind Michael Jackson’s Thriller. It is also the Highest Selling Album by an Australian Music Act of all time. It was also certified 22 times platinum in America by the RIAA on 2007-12-13.
