The Cure – The Love Cats

“The Lovecats” is a classic 1983 single by The Cure on Fiction Records.

It was the band’s first Top 10 hit in the UK, peaking at number 7. The single also hit number 6 in Australia.

The personnel in the constantly mutating Cure formation who recorded this track were; Robert Smith – Voice, Guitar, Keyboards; Lol Tolhurst – Vibes; Phil Thornalley – Bass; Andy Anderson – Drums.

“The Lovecats” later appeared on the compilation album Japanese Whispers.

One of the band’s best loved singles, the song has been covered by a number of artists.

Tanya Donelly and Dylan in the Movies teamed up to record a cover of “The Lovecats” for the 2008 American Laundromat Records tribute album Just Like Heaven – a tribute to The Cure.

Luke Doucet has also covered the song on his album Blood’s Too Rich.

We move like caged tigers
We couldn’t get closer than this
The way we walk
The way we talk
The way we stalk
The way we kiss
We slip through the streets
While everyone sleeps
Getting bigger and sleeker
And wider and brighter
We bite and scratch and scream all night
Let’s go and throw
All the songs we know…

Into the sea
You and me
All these years and no one heard
I’ll show you in spring
It’s a treacherous thing
We missed you hissed the lovecats

We’re so wonderfully wonderfully wonderfully
Wonderfully pretty!
Oh you know that I’d do anything for you…
We should have each other to tea huh?
We should have each other with cream
Then curl up by the fire
And sleep for awhile
It’s the grooviest thing
It’s the perfect dream

Into the sea
You and me
All these years and no one heard
I’ll show you in spring
It’s a treacherous thing
We missed you hissed the lovecats

We’re so wonderfully wonderfully wonderfully
Wonderfully pretty!
You know that I’d do anything for you…
We should have each other to dinner
We should have each other with cream
Then curl up in the fire
Get up for awhile
It’s the grooviest thing
It’s the perfect dream

Hand in hand
Is the only way to land
And always the right way round
Not broken in pieces
Like hated little meeces…
How could we miss
Someone as dumb as this?

I love you… let’s go…
Oh… solid gone…
How could we miss
Someone as dumb as this?

The Cure – ‘Underneath The Stars’

The Cure (Wembley Arena, London, 20 March 2008) - 15

A nice new Cure song to make fans forget about the four year plus wait for new material!

Bobby and the boys have been releasing singles on the 13th of every month (goths ain’t superstitious!!) in the run up to the new album. This is probably the pick of the bunch.

The Cure – ‘Please Come Home’ (Unreleased Demo 2004)

The Cure (Wembley Arena, London, 20 March 2008) - 16
I think this was ‘leaked’ around September 13, the day Hypnagogic States was released. Coincidence or not, this is a pretty decent sounding demo that I believe is from ‘The Cure‘ sessions. Tense guitars, howling vocals, and some thunderous drums, puts this song up there with ‘Your God Is Fear’ as one of the songs that SHOULD have been on that album.

Anyway, we have it now…enjoy!

When are those wierdos from “Queer cock for the straight ass“, or whatever the fuck that bullshit show is called, going to grab Mr Smith?!

Robert, it really isn’t 1982 anymore anywhere except in your skull mate!

Also, you’re in your 50th year now! It really is time to get rid of the horse’s mane and goth garb!

Guess we’ll soon be seeing Robbie in whatever apparel 50 year old geezers wear. A pringle jumper, a polo neck shirt, turquoise golf trousers and real comfortable white shoes!?

“Sleep When I’m Dead” is the latest single by The Cure, released on July 13 2008 on Geffen Records in the United Kingdom.

This is from from their impending album – The Cure’s thirteenth album, the name of which is still undisclosed … perhaps “Unlucky Thirteen”!! The Cure are planning to release “Unlucky Thirteen” ironically enough on September 13, 2008! 13? What a fucking sense of humour! Are they really goths?!

Sleep When I’m Dead has the distinction of including a keyboard part depite the fact that the band has not had a keyboardist in their lineup since 2005.

In an issue of Rolling Stone Magazine, Robert Smith stated that the song was a recently uncovered demo from the recording sessions of the album “The Head on the Door.”

1. “Sleep When I’m Dead (Mix 13)” – 3:51
2. “Down Under” – 3:05

The Cure – The Only One (CD-single)

Release: 13.05.2008
Label: Suretone/Geffen
Bitrate: 320 kbps / Size: 16.1 MB

When we told you the Cure were planning to release a single a month until the September release of their still-untitled 13th album, a commenter asked, “Does anyone care????” (give or take a ?). Well, the rest of the thread shows quite a few of you do.

So then — the first of four singles are out, though it might not sound too new if you’re a big fan: We first heard “The Only One” last year when the band was in Mexico. There’s the live take and then the one they put to tape in the studio, where you get a slightly clearer sense of Robert’s sensual, lip-sucking and hips-loving sunniness.

The Cure – Collectors Kaleidoscope (1996)

The Cure – Collectors Kaleidoscope (1996)

– Ripped from an extremely rare original CD at 160.

Yes, the cover is shite! No worries though, cos the music is pretty good.

I was into this lot years ago. Looking back, their early material really was quite innovative and still stands the test of time.

This release explores that territory further. Yes, this is a rather wonderful collection of Cure rarities, compiled by the German label, Hot Tracks in 1996.

What’s here are demos, covers (Doors, Hendrix and Bowie!), B-Sides, Live tracks and, most wonderfully, the ORIGINAL Easy Cure demo from 1977!

Even Robert Smith himself loves this album! It makes him get his mascara all wet!
