Yeong Wook Jo – Old Boy OST

Artist – Yeong Wook Jo
Album – Old Boy OST
Release Date – 2003 Audio CD – 2005
Genre – Modern Classic / Experimental / OST

Yeong Wook Jo is a Korean composer who has created upwards of 15 film scores.

At least three of them were for s great movies, including Oldboy.

This is an Asian exclusive soundtrack to the award winning South Korean film Oldboy.

We’ve already posted this film where the high-level plot therein is that an average man is kidnapped and imprisoned in a hotel room for 15 years without explanation. He is then released, equipped with money, a cell phone and expensive clothes. As he strives to explain his imprisonment and get his revenge, he soon finds out that not only does his kidnapper still have plans for him, but that those plans will serve as an even worse fate than 15 years of imprisonment.

This great movie was directed by and released in 2003.

We’ve already posted Chan-wook Park’s great Vengeance Trilogy which comprised Chan-wook Park’s Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (2002) , Oldboy (2003) and Sympathy For Lady Vengeance (2005)!

This is wonderful music. A piece of art that stands alone in its ownright as well as enhancing the film for which it was composed.

The majority of the songs are relatively short from one and a half to two minutes and there is a great variety between the pieces!

You will notice that most of the song titles on the film’s soundtrack reference a classic noir movie or novel: The Big Sleep, Farewell My Lovely, Out of the Past, Point Blank, etc. (and maybe the odd John Ford masterpiece western … Searchers!)
